š Aussie cricket loses another legend
The cricket world is mourning the death of another Aussie legend just months after Shane Warne and Rod Marsh passed away.
Golden points: Andrew Symonds died on Saturday night in a car crash near Townsville. He was 46.
The cause of the crash is still unknown and police say that thereās nothing to suggest alcohol was involved.
His former teammates were shocked like the rest of us and shared their tributes online.
If you grew up watching cricket then you know Symonds was special. He won a couple of ODI World Cups, made hitting sixes look easy and could hit the stumps from just about anywhere on the field.
They said it: āIf Roy shook your hand you had his word, that's the sort of bloke he was and that's why I always wanted him on my team.ā - Former skipper Ricky Ponting loved playing with āRoyā.
Key click: Symonds was the victim of racist abuse in 2008 when he was called a āmonkeyā by Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh. This was a huge moment at the time, but former Aussie skipper Allan border says it shouldāve been handled differently.
Watch it: Here's his century from the Boxing Day Test against England 16 years ago.
ā½ Super Sam does it again
Sam Kerr isnāt a Capricorn but her CV suggests sheās probably the GOAT.
Golden points: There is no stopping Kerr at the moment. She scored twice overnight to help Chelsea win a 2nd title in a week. Oh, she also scored 2 goals in that game.
This one wasnāt so easy. Thatās because another Aussie, Hayley Raso, came off the bench to make it 2-2 with a very late goal.
But that didnāt worry Kerr. She punished a mistake by Aussie defender Alanna Kennedy to put Chelsea back in front in the 99th minute.
Itās Chelseaās 2nd FA Cup title in as many years. Itās no surprise that Kerr scored twice in that game as well. The difference was a record crowd of 49,094 got to see her do it this time.
Chelsea's men's team couldn't quite match their women's side. They lost the FA Cup final to Liverpool 6-5 on penalties.
Watch it: Sam Kerr's highlight reel is getting out of control.
ā½ Triple treat for Victorian football fans
And then there were 4. That would be A-League Menās teams, not leftover slices of pizza after a long weekend.
Golden points: Victoria is dominating football this season with 3 teams in the semi-finals. And it means we get a delicious derby over 2 legs starting tomorrow.
That will be Melbourne Victory against Western United after the latter beat Wellington Phoenix 1-0 on Saturday.
The other semi is just as exciting. Minor premiers Melbourne City are fresh after a week off and theyāll now play Adelaide.
The Reds eliminated Central Coast 3-1 on Sunday to book their place in the final 4.
Whatās next: So those elimination finals were just one-off games. But that changes now. Both semis are over 2 legs, and it all starts tomorrow at AAMI Park in Melbourne. Kick-off will be at 7.05pm (AEST).
š Which brings us to today's trivia question...
How many Victorian teams have won the A-League Men comp?
Answer at the bottom of the newsletter.
š NZ hands Aussie teams a reality check
It was party time on Friday for Aussie rugby news who were celebrating the news that weād be hosting the menās and womenās World Cups. But those celebrations were quickly cut short.
Golden points: Donāt worry, the World Cups are staying here. But none of our Super Rugby Pacific teams won this weekend.
All 5 of them lost to teams from New Zealand. The Force and Reds were spanked and the Brumbies lost to the classy Crusaders.
But there were some close games. The Waratahs were up 15-0 at half-time against the Hurricanes but lost 22-18.
The Rebels also thought theyād won. But they didnāt. The Chiefs scored a try as the siren sounded to win 33-30.
Whatās next: There are still 2 rounds to go so thereās plenty of time to turn things around. The Brumbies, Waratahs and Reds are all in the top 8 and on track to play finals footy.
š„ Charlo high on Tszyu's wish list
It seems like every bout finishes with people calling it the āfight of the yearā. Well, those people might be right this time after an epic fight in California.
Golden points: There is no room for debate when talking about the best super-welterweight in the world. Jermell Charlo ended the discussion when he knocked out Brian Castano in the 10th round.
Thatās a big deal for Charlo because it means he now holds all 4 super-welterweight belts. That makes him the first undisputed champ in that weight division.
This was a brutal fight but Charlo took control in the 10th when he knocked Castano down twice.
There was one fan there who was watching it more closely than others. That would be Aussie Tim Tszyu, who is the mandatory challenger for Charloās WBO belt.
They said it: "Itās different heat over here in America, baby. Itās different heat in America." - It doesn't sound like Charlo thinks too highly of the young Aussie.
Watch it: Some of these punches hurt just watching them.
š Quick singles

š Left of field...
Unlike Akon, our Aussie golfers over in the States arenāt lonely anymore.
Golden points: Playing a solo sport away from home can be a daunting experience for young golfers looking to crack into the American tour.
And thatās why Golf Australia decided to build a facility that made our players feel right at home in Orlando, Florida.
Weāre talking all the little things that we take for granted when weāre overseas. Stuff like Tim Tams and Vegemite are always on the menu.
This all started back in 2019 and it allows players to feel at home with other people going through the same thing. They can also work on their game because thereās a gym driving range and coaches who can help them with anything.
Whatās next: Letās see if the Vegemite helps at the US PGA Championship which starts on Thursday night (AEST).
š½ The highlight reel
Murray Taulagi must have graduated as the dux of Hogwarts. There is no other explanation after he produced this impossible pass to stun the NRL world at Magic Round.
šø Photo finish
There wasn't much sun on the Gold Coast yesterday, but that didn't stop the Suns from raining on Fremantle's parade in one of the biggest AFL upsets of the season. Winners are grinners and you can't wipe the smile off Nick Holman's face.
