š“āāļø Jai looks pretty in pink after historic win
Get out the lycra and ride to work this morning because Australia has a new cycling champion.
Golden points: Jai Hindley has a brand new pink jersey after he won the Giro dāItalia overnight.
That makes him the first Aussie to win in Italy and heās just the 2nd to win a Grand Tour title after Cadel Evans won the 2011 Tour de France.
This is sweet revenge for Hindley who led the Giro heading into the final time trial in 2020 but ended up finishing 2nd.
There was no need to sweat this time because he had a big lead heading into the final stage thanks to a huge ride the day before. He was 15th in the time trial but only 7 seconds slower than main rival Richard Carapaz.
They said it: āI'm really proud to be Australian and happy to take this home.ā - Enjoy that prosecco.
Whatās next: Hindley can chill for a bit before the Tour de France starts on 1 July.
Watch it: Check out the final stage and the trophy presentation.
š Ferrari's fumble gives Red Bull wings
Charles Leclercās homecoming looked to be going to plan. But one bad call cost the Ferrari driver victory at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Golden points: Last nightās Formula 1 GP was delayed by an hour because of heavy rain on the streets of Monaco. And when it rains, chaos almost always ensues.
Team tactics become just as important as actual driving in the rain, and Ferrari didnāt quite get their plans right.
They did something called ādouble stackingā and it backfired. Thatās when you bring in both cars at the same time, and they quickly realised theyād done the wrong thing but it was too late to stop Leclerc from pitting.
It meant he went from 1st to 4th on lap 21, and thatās where he finished. Main rival Max Verstappen was 3rd, and the Dutchmanās Red Bull teammate Sergio PĆ©rez claimed the win.
Mick Schumacher is fine after a massive crash destroyed his car.
Whatās next: Verstappen now leads by 9 points. The next race is in Azerbaijan on 12 June where Daniel Ricciardo will hope to improve on his 13th place finish overnight.
š No Foxx as Freddy unveils new-look Blues
There are 22 very happy NRL players after they were called into camp by NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler. But there was one major surprise when the team for game one of the State of Origin series was announced last night.
Golden points: There are 6 fresh faces in Fittlerās squad, but we donāt know exactly whoās going to play because it was announced in alphabetical order.
The big surprise is that Josh Addo-Carr isnāt there. Heās scored 10 tries in 12 games for the Blues but he's been overlooked this year.
Heās been replaced by Daniel Tupou on the wing. Heās very tall and thatās important because Queensland will likely name giants Xavier Coates and Selwyn Cobbo.
Eels forward Ryan Matterson looks set to make his debut 3 years after he thought he'd get a game. Nicho Hynes will also likely play his first game off the bench.
Key click: Hereās a look at all the winners and losers from last nightās announcement.
Whatās next: Queensland will pick their team at 9.00am (AEST) and then things will really ramp up. The series starts on 8 June at Accor Stadium in Sydney.
š Which brings us to today's trivia question...
What award does the State of Origin player of the series receive?
Answer at the bottom of the newsletter.
š New details are a bad look for Cambage
Liz Cambageās withdrawal from the Opals team ahead of last yearās Olympics was one of the biggest basketball stories of 2021. Now we know a lot more about what happened.
Golden points: News Corp broke the story on Sunday that Cambage elbowed a Nigerian player in the head and then called some of their players āmonkeysā.
That led to a major scuffle before the practice game was called off.
Cambage then quit the team on mental health grounds and the Opals struggled in Tokyo, eventually losing to the USA in the quarters.
Her former teammates have told their stories of what happened, and itās pretty clear that sheāll never play for the Opals again.
Whatās next: The Opals lost to Japan by a point yesterday as they continue to prepare for this yearās World Cup.
Watch it: Here's what happened in that game.
ā½ Stats mean nothing as underdogs go all the way
Football was the winner this weekend. But if weāre being more accurate, Western United and Real Madrid were the real winners thanks to a couple of upset results.
Golden points: It turns out regular season form counts for plenty in the big games. Melbourne City hadnāt beaten Western United all year, and that continued in the A-League Menās Grand Final.
United showed no signs of nerves in their first GF. They scored after 100 seconds thanks to an own goal and added another one in the first half through Aleksandar PrijoviÄ, who was the player of the match.
City dominated all the stats except the scoreboard. It means they miss out on back-to-back titles while United have a trophy in their 3rd season in the comp.
Stats really donāt mean much in football. Real Madrid only had 4 shots compared to Liverpoolās 24, but they still won the UEFA Champions League final 1-0.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois came up with 9 saves to help Madrid win their 14th European title, which is a record. All he wanted was a little bit of respect.
Watch it: Here are the highlights from Paris. Look away Liverpool fans.

š Left of field...
Fantasy sports can get pretty heated at the best of times. But when you throw in heaps of money and some trash talk, things can quickly boil over.
Golden points: Tommy Pham and Joc Pederson wonāt be playing in the same NFL fantasy league next season.
Actually, they probably wonāt talk again after Pham slapped Pederson before their Major League Baseball game on Saturday.
Pham was furious with Pederson because he thought he had bent the rules in one of their comps last season and wasnāt happy with a gif that was floating around in the group chat.
They said it: āIām a big dog in Vegas. Iām a high roller at many casinos.ā - Pham is also suspended for 3 games.
š½ The highlight reel
The Fijian Drua fell one point short of a famous victory in their final Super Rugby Pacific game of the season, but it didn't stop them from producing this incredible try that had the home crowd buzzing.
