š¾ Wimbledon bans Russian, Belarusian players
It appears to be a case of game, set and match for Russian and Belarusian athletes who had hoped to compete at Wimbledon this year.
Golden points: The All England Club has banned players from those countries from competing in this yearās tennis grand slam, but not everyone agrees with the decision.
In a statement, the AEC said they couldnāt allow Russia to benefit from having players at Wimbledon.
The ban is a biggie because there are 4 Russian men in the top 30, including world #2 Daniil Medvedev. There are also 5 women in the top 40, plus world #4 Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus.
Other tennis tournaments have forced players to compete as neutrals, but this is the first event to ban them completely.
What are the chances⦠the situation changes? The AEC has said they will review their decision if things in Ukraine change before Wimbledon starts on 27 June. The same rule does not apply to the French Open which begins next month.
Key click: The ATP has released a statement of its own, and it is not happy with the decision.
š Which brings us to today's trivia question...
Who won last year's men's and women's singles titles at Wimbledon?

Both countries will pick 30 swimmers each, including para-athletes, and they'll go head-to-head in the pool.
If you think youāve heard about this happening before then you are right. There were 3 of those in 2003, 2005 and 2007, and the Americans won them all.

š Ponga says good knight to rival clubs
Pack up the big tent because the media circus has been kicked out of town.
Golden points: Newcastle Knights skipper Kalyn Ponga has signed a new 5-year deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2027 season.
Heāll appreciate the $5 million, but Ponga and the Knights will love the fact media speculation about his future is over.
There were stories almost every day - and even one at half-time of his most recent match - linking him to other NRL clubs or even rugby union.
The one person who wonāt be happy is Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett. He wanted Ponga to join the new club next year and is still looking to sign a marquee player.
They said it: āMy teammates have been awesome, they have shown me every respect and patience, without any pressure throughout the negotiations.ā - Ponga said he was tempted by the Dolphins but couldnāt leave his mates.

The sport of gymnastics has been rocked a few times across the world over abuse claims. Now the focus is on Australia.
Golden points: A report by Sport Integrity Australia found that athletes were harmed or abused at the Western Australia Institute of Sport.
These arenāt fresh allegations. The complaints were from 1987-2016 when the WAIS gymnastics program was cancelled due to a lack of funding.
Some of the allegations include fat-shaming, physical and verbal abuse, and being forced to train and compete while injured.

Maradona scored one of the greatest World Cup goals of all time in the quarter-final when he beat a stack of English defenders.
But thatās not the main event. Wearing the famous No.10 jersey, Maradona scored a goal with his arm that is called the āHand of Godā and still leaves English fans irate.
He gave the jersey to midfielder Steve Hodge who now wants to sell it.
What are the chances⦠itās the real deal? Sothebyās are running the auction and they swear itās legit. But Maradonaās family disagrees. Controversy!
